Distilled on 11 April 2008 and matured for over ten years before being decanted on 24 October 2018, this remarkable whisky was drawn exclusively from Barrel TD0263, producing just 536 bottles worldwide. The Rare Special Cask Edition series is reserved for casks displaying exceptional individuality and character, with each bottling offering a unique expression of Sullivan's Cove's celebrated Tasmanian spirit. Barrel TD0263 holds particular significance as the first Special Cask Edition matured in a French Oak Apera cask, showcasing the remarkable influence of Australian fortified wine-seasoned oak. Bottled at 44.8% ABV, this release beautifully balances rich cask-derived flavours with the distillery's refined, fruit-driven spirit, making it one of the more distinctive releases from the Special Cask range.
The nose is inviting and layered, revealing aromas of apricot jam, ripe peach, baked apple, honeyed malt and buttery caramel, intertwined with hints of toasted almonds, vanilla and gentle baking spice. The palate is silky and beautifully integrated, offering generous flavours of toffee, dried fig, cocoa-dusted stone fruits, creamy malt and clove, while subtle notes of sea salt and toasted oak provide balance and complexity. The finish is long and elegant, lingering with impressions of dulce de leche, toasted marshmallow, cocoa nibs, warm spice and refined oak, leaving a satisfying and memorable conclusion.
