Heritage & Background
In 1844, Doctor Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary planted vines on the slopes of Magill, just outside the infant settlement of Adelaide, South Australia, to produce port. His port must have been excellent, as it took over from medicine as the Penfold family's chief source of income, and Australia's greatest wine dynasty was born.

In 1915, an oak cask containing a blend of the finest ports the company possessed was set aside for the exclusive use of the Penfold family. This became known as "The Grandfather" due to the great age of the oldest ports in the blend. Grandfather Port was first released to the public in the 1960s and has since become Penfolds' flagship fortified wine.

The blend displays fruit character harmonised with the fine quality brandy spirit to deliver a remarkable sweet aged bouquet.
