1970 Rambler Rebel SST 770 - White - AMI-Assembled - 360ci V8 - 3-Speed Auto - WA Only
AMI-assembled 1970 Rambler Rebel SST 770, 4-door sedan, right-hand drive, rear-wheel drive, AMC 360ci (5.9L) V8, 3-speed column-shift automatic. White. WA registration to July 2026. Located Bassendean WA.
Description / Overview:
Most people do not know these were built here. The compliance plate says it all: manufactured by Australian Motor Industries Ltd, Port Melbourne, October 1970. AMI assembled these Rebels from American Motors Corporation components under licence, which makes this a genuine Australian-built piece of American muscle and a rarity in any collection.
The white finish carries a deep, high-gloss shine with no chips, rust bubbles or fading anywhere on the car. Panel gaps are even, the chrome is impressive, and the full-width rear taillight bar and quad-headlight grille surround are both bright and properly preserved. The polished Torq Thrust-style alloys suit the proportions well, a period-appropriate upgrade that sits right on the car.
Step inside and you are looking at a two-tone blue re-trim in very good to excellent condition. Cloth and velour inserts on the bench seats with dark vinyl bolsters, and the carpet is fresh black. The under-dash air conditioning unit is a period-style install common on Aussie-delivered cars of this era and looks the part. The original Rambler AM radio is retained in the dash, a nice touch alongside the Alpine head unit added below it.
One thing to know: the instruments are MPH-calibrated, so the odometer reading of 33,407 is in miles, not kilometres. That puts actual distance at approximately 53,800 km. The AMC 360ci V8 has been lightly freshened with a red HEI electronic distributor and red silicone leads, and the car is currently registered in WA to July 2026.
Price Guide: $18,000 - $28,000
AMI-assembled Ramblers are genuinely uncommon in Australia. These cars were built in small numbers under licence and few survive in presentable condition. The rarity, the correct 360ci drivetrain, current WA registration and this level of presentation put it firmly in the $18,000 to $28,000 range for the right buyer.
