Abie Loy Kemarre was born on 1972 in Utopia, Northern Territory. She began painting in 1994 under the guidance of her late grandmother and renowned artist, Kathleen Petyarre. Abie adopted the delicate dotting technique used by Kathleen as well as developing her own unique style. She is a very talented and established artist and was selected as a finalist in the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 1997 and 2001. Known as one of the more dynamic and diverse of the younger group of Indigenous painters, Abie Loy's artworks are held in major collections worldwide and feature in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Victoria and The Art Gallery of South Australia.
