Coin collection of Nine 1800s DUTCH DUIT New York Pennies SHIPWRECK coinsDUTCH DUIT SHIPWRECK COINS“New York Pennies”Coins found on an unidentified 1800s era shipwreck in indonesia. It was probably a merchant ship. Coins have corrosion and abnormal wear patterns from spending more than a century underwater. These duit’s are today known as “NEW YORK PENNIES” because of the low denomination similar in value to a British and American penny and by the fact that earlier ones did circulate in New York due to a coin shortage. But they were usually minted to circulate in the Dutch East Indies (Mostly today what is Indonesia).
