Verified History: The Actual Spanish Galleon Real Felipe That My Model Largely Depicts, Was Indeed A Warrior Of The Seas And Plundered The British Fleet For Years Along With Other Similarly Sized And Menacing Galleons In The Spanish Armada. The Ships Making Up The Spanish Armada Were A Formidable 100 Plus Gun And Enormous (For Their Era) At Over 220 Ft Length. The Real Felipe Itself Was A Triple Decker, 229Ft Long And Carried 114 Guns Plus Another 36 Cannons Down On The Lower Battery Over The Waterline. She Had A Displacement Tonnage (Total Laden Tonnage) For Battle At Just Over 2025 Tons And Carried A Battle Crew Of Over 1100 Men. By The Mid 1730S The British Started Turning The Tide Of Heavy Losses To The Spanish Armada When They Introduced Smaller, Much Faster And Destructive Vessels Of Only 150 To 170Ft Length. These Carried 74 Guns And Could Easily Out Manoeuvre The Massive Spanish Galleon, So Becoming Known As The “Backbone Of The British Fleet”. The Concept Of Smaller, Faster, Highly Destructive Naval Vessels Is Still In Vogue Today As We Know As Destroyers. At The Battle Of Toulon (Off Cape Sicie On The Coast Of France) In 1744 With The British, The Real Felipe Was So Badly Damaged It Nearly Sank And Was Lucky To Be Able To Retreat. It Was Towed Back To Cartagena Where It Was Never Able To Be Repaired And Was Retired In 1750 And Broken Up.

The Model Of The Sanfelipe (Attached) Was Master Grade Crafted In Vietnam And Has Been In Storage Up In Our Attic Ever Since I Brought It Home Some 20 Years Ago, Meaning It Is In New Condition. My Wife Decided It Was Too Nautical For Our House And Was Never Unpacked And Displayed Until 3 Weeks Ago. The Model Is Made Of Teakwood, Is 1.1 Metres Long (Including Bow Sprit): Hull Is 92Cm Length. I Had It Commissioned To Museum Grade Display Specification. It Is My Understanding From Dredging The Model Clubs In Sydney And Model Site Information, These Replicas Are Being Pitched Between $1500 - $3500 And As You Can See, This Specimen Is 1St Class. The Plank-Work In The Hull And Deck Are Individually Hand Crafted

It Is Important You Are Aware The Sanfelipe As A Spanish Galleon Never Actually Existed In Spanish Naval History, Meaning Of Course The Date Of 1690 On The Model’S Stand Badge Is Not Factual. It Is However An Amalgamation Of Spanish Galleon Designs Most Notably Dominated By The Design Of The Real Felipe (1732).


Additions Information From The Vendor: The Concept To Produce This “Amalgamation” And Call It The Sanfelipe, Was Inspired By Italian Artist Vincenzo Lusci In The 1960S. It Is My Understanding That Why Lusci Came Up With The Concept Of Amalgamating Aspects Of Famous Spanish Galleons And Produce The Sanfelipe (1690) Model Was Because The Real Felipe Itself Was Not A Thing Of Great Beauty. But Spanish Designs And Their Beloved Ornamentation Through The Years Were Certainly Worth Capturing. So While My Model Did Not Exist As An Actual Single Spanish Galleon, It Nevertheless Comprises Significant Aspects Of The Real Felipe (1732) Itself Making The Sanfelipe (1690) Model Very Valuable And Sought After.
