Overview

A statement necklace combining two complementary gemstones in substantial quantities. The pendant is a 64.15ct cushion-cut amethyst measuring 29.01mm x 23.29mm, in a medium-dark reddish-purple with eye-clean clarity and a fantasy-style concave faceting pattern that creates a starburst effect with strong brilliance. The amethyst is double-claw set in a 10ct white gold basket gallery and is suspended from a graduated strand of 113 Ethiopian opal bead rondelles totalling 87.89ct, ranging from 4.81mm x 2.88mm to 8.74mm x 5.80mm. The strand closes with a 14ct yellow gold ball clasp.



Ethiopian opals are known for their vivid play-of-colour, and this strand delivers. The bead rondelles display moderate to strong play-of-colour in greens, oranges, and yellows against cream to pale orange body colours. The 48cm strand length positions the pendant at a natural display point. At over 150ct of combined gemstone weight, this is a lot for a buyer who wants presence.



Note: Ethiopian opals are hydrophane opals and may absorb water, which can temporarily suppress play-of-colour. This is a known characteristic of the variety and is not a defect. Treatment status of both gemstones is not stated on the certificate.

Condition
