Australia 1988 $5 Parliament House Opening Commemorative Coin - Royal Australian Mint - Aluminium Bronze - Stuart Devlin Reverse Design - Uncirculated - In Original Packaging

1988 $5 Parliament House coin. Aluminium bronze. Uncirculated. In original sealed packaging. Australia's first $5 coin.

Description

The 1988 Royal Australian Mint $5 coin commemorating the opening of the new Parliament House in Canberra (opened 9 May 1988), issued as part of Australia's Bicentenary celebrations. This was the first Australian $5 coin and was produced in large quantities for both circulation and collector presentation.

The reverse, designed by Stuart Devlin (SD initials visible), depicts an aerial/elevated view of the new Parliament House on Capital Hill showing the distinctive curved walls, forecourt, and the large flag mast. "5 DOLLARS" appears prominently below. The obverse carries the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1988."

The coin appears in uncirculated condition (approximately MS-62 to MS-63), retaining full mint lustre with only very light tonal changes from 37 years of storage - typical for aluminium-bronze coins in original packaging. In original sealed plastic presentation pouch.
