Description
The Hitachi ZX170W-5B is a 17 tonne wheeled excavator designed for civil infrastructure, road works, and urban construction. As a rubber tyred machine, it drives between sites under its own power at road speed without requiring a float. For contractors working across multiple sites in a day, particularly in urban and suburban environments, this eliminates one of the biggest logistics costs in the business.
This particular machine is exceptionally well equipped. The standout feature is the Steelwrist X18 tilt rotator. This is a premium Swedish-engineered attachment coupler that provides full 360 degree continuous rotation plus hydraulic tilt on any attachment connected to it. A GP bucket becomes a grading bucket. A trenching bucket can angle into corners. A grab can rotate to any position. The Steelwrist transforms the capability of the machine from a conventional dig-and-load excavator into a precision tool that can do the work of multiple machines. A new Steelwrist X18, supplied and fitted, costs $40,000 to $60,000 or more.
The machine is also fitted with a PRM height limiter system. This is an electronic boom height restriction device that prevents the operator from raising the boom above a preset height.
