Three 1953-dated Australian Commonwealth half penny coins in bronze. The 1953 half penny is the first year to carry the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on Australian coinage - the young laureate bust by sculptor Mary Gillick with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA (without F:D:, which was added from 1956). These are first-year-of-effigy coins, of note to type collectors seeking the inaugural year of the QEII portrait on Australian issues. The reverse retains the familiar Kruger Gray leaping kangaroo with AUSTRALIA / HALF PENNY.

Condition: All three coins grade approximately VG-10 to F-15 (Sheldon scale), with moderate wear. Reverses show decent kangaroo detail; obverse portraits have legible legends with moderate flattening of high points. Natural brown patina, no cleaning evident. Lot of 3 coins.
