1965 South Africa 2 Cent - Republic Era, Circulated

A 1965 South African 2 cent bronze coin from the Republic era (post-1961 transition from Union of South Africa). The obverse features the portrait of Jan van Riebeeck (Dutch founder of the Cape Colony) facing right. The reverse features a Black Wildebeest (Gnu) in full gallop with the denomination 2c, designed by Tommaso Kruger.

Metal: Bronze. Denomination: 2 cents.

Condition notice: This coin is in poor to fair condition, grading approximately AG-3 to G-4 (Sheldon scale). The obverse shows significant blue-green verdigris (copper oxidation corrosion) particularly around the left side and edges, along with heavy reddish-brown discoloration across the surfaces. The reverse shows moderate to heavy tarnishing; the wildebeest design remains the most legible element. The verdigris is an active form of corrosion that affects the coin's collector appeal and long-term stability. Sold as shown.
