Krishen Khanna (born 1925) is one of the most celebrated figures in Indian modern art and among the last surviving artists associated with the influential Progressive Artists’ movement. A largely self-taught painter, Khanna began his professional life as a banker with Grindlays Bank while pursuing art alongside his career. Encouraged by his close friend and fellow artist M. F. Husain, Khanna eventually devoted himself fully to painting, a decision that would establish him as one of India’s most respected artistic voices.
