1999 Maxum 4100 SCB "Cheeky Monkey" - Twin Cummins 370hp Turbo-Diesel - 678 Hours - Starlink, Lithium Battery Bank, Westerbeke Generator
42ft flybridge cruiser, twin Cummins 6BT 370hp turbo-diesel inboards, approximately 678 hours, two-cabin layout, Docklands Melbourne.
About the Model
The Maxum 4100 SCB is a well-regarded American flybridge cruiser produced between 1997 and 2002. At 42ft overall with a 4.24m beam, it was designed for serious coastal passages with enough space for two couples in genuine comfort. It sits above the SCA sedan cabin variant in the Maxum range and delivers the elevated visibility, entertaining space, and commanding presence that flybridge ownership is about. Power comes from twin Cummins 6BT turbo-diesel inboards, the same engine family found in countless commercial vessels and workboats worldwide. It is a proven unit with a global parts and service network, known for strong torque, efficient fuel burn at cruising speed, and a long service life when maintained. Top speed is just under 30 knots with a comfortable cruising range at 20-22 knots. This example has been marina-berthed at Docklands, Melbourne.
Condition and Fit-Out
The white fibreglass hull presents in fair cosmetic condition for a 27-year-old vessel. Topsides above the waterline show age-appropriate oxidation with no significant gelcoat crazing, impact damage, or structural concerns visible in any photo. A haul-out photograph confirms the four-blade bronze propeller is in good condition with no visible strike damage. The antifoul bottom coating shows wear and will require renewal before the next season. The interior has been maintained to a higher standard than the exterior. The main salon features upgraded herringbone-pattern vinyl plank flooring, leather upholstery, and a functional galley with electric cooktop, marine refrigerator, microwave, and double stainless sink. Both staterooms are clean and well-presented with comfortable berths, reading lighting, and good storage. The head includes an electric marine toilet and enclosed shower stall. The flybridge shows cosmetic wear from UV exposure: the burl wood dash panels are faded and show surface delamination, the wet bar gelcoat has significant staining and mildew buildup around the sink surround, and the helm and bench cushions have general soiling. These are all cosmetic surface issues, not structural, and are typical of a vessel this age that has lived outdoors. Melita Marine Services (Williamstown North, Victoria) completed a documented service in May 2025. Work included replacement of the hydraulic helm pump, full wiring harness replacement from helm to engines, and a fuel pump rebuild (reseal of the 6BT P-series injection pump) on one engine, followed by launch and water test. Invoice total: $9,710. This is significant spend on a vessel now being sold at auction and gives buyers meaningful confidence in the engine and steering systems.
Systems and Upgrades
This vessel has been fitted with a package of modern upgrades that put it well ahead of an unimproved 1999 example. A Starlink satellite internet dish is confirmed fitted to the cabin top, providing broadband connectivity at anchor. A Fullriver DC210-12 lithium battery bank (minimum two 210Ah 12V units confirmed in photographs) is paired with an Enerdrive ePOWER 12V 40A 3-bank smart charger, a quality Australian-made marine charging system photographed in active absorption mode. A solar charge controller is confirmed fitted, indicating solar panel input to the battery management system (solar panels are present but not photographed; vendor advises solar support system fitted). A Westerbeke generator is confirmed fitted in the engine bay (enclosure shows surface rust on the painted housing, cosmetic). Vendor advises a SK Watermaker desalination system and a Pure Wave inverter system are also fitted.
Navigation and Electronics
Garmin 3010C colour GPS/chartplotter at the flybridge helm station. Furuno GP-1650DF colour GPS plotter and echo sounder at the lower helm. VHF radio with handset at the flybridge. Bennett hydraulic trim tabs with flybridge control switch. Dual anchor windlass with twin electric capstans and chain at the bow. The electronics package is functional for coastal passages and anchoring. Buyers upgrading to a current-generation chartplotter/multifunction display would find existing cable routes and mounting points already established.
Accommodation
Two-cabin layout: a forward VIP stateroom with island double berth, reading nooks, oval portholes, overhead hatch, and cherry timber cabinetry with flatscreen TV; and an aft midships stateroom with double berth, flatscreen TV, timber cabinetry, and air conditioning vent. The main salon provides a full-beam dining and lounge area with a pedestal table, leather settee, entertainment stack (JVC AV receiver, 5-disc CD changer, cassette deck, Pioneer DVD player, Panasonic TV, TCL soundbar), and sliding glass door connecting salon to cockpit. The galley is equipped with a two-burner electric cooktop, Mishto or similar marine refrigerator/freezer, Panasonic microwave, double stainless sink, and storage cabinetry. The single head has an electric marine toilet, vanity, mirror, and separate enclosed glass shower.
Deck and Cockpit
The enclosed flybridge features a full canvas enclosure, two-person helm seat, port aft bench seating, wet bar with sink and cup holders, and rail-mounted stainless steel BBQ grill. The main cockpit provides an aft entertaining space with U-shaped settee and pedestal table. A large integrated fibreglass swim platform spans the full transom width with a folding stainless steel boarding ladder and non-skid surface. Bow thruster is fitted, vendor advises. Shore power inlet (240V) and battery isolation switches (Guest brand, port and starboard) are accessible from the cockpit locker. WalVac built-in central vacuum system is fitted in the accommodation passageway. First Alert combination CO and smoke alarm is fitted in the accommodation.
Safety Equipment
Life jackets (Burke brand, multiple units) stowed in accommodation hanging locker. Life ring visible on swim platform. Red dry chemical fire extinguisher mounted in engine bay. Safety equipment is sold as is. Buyers are to verify currency and compliance for their intended operating area and state maritime requirements.
Survey and Compliance
Not surveyed. Pre-purchase inspection strongly recommended. Inspection by appointment at Docklands, Melbourne VIC. Vessel sells without trailer. Marina berth arrangement is a buyer responsibility post-settlement.
