Description:

Circa 2005 Maxum 2900 SE Sports Cruiser - Twin MerCruiser 4.3L MPI V6 Sterndrive - 9.12m - Docklands Melbourne

Twin-engine mid-cabin sports cruiser, 9.12m fibreglass hull, twin MerCruiser 4.3L MPI V6 sterndrive (220hp each), sleeps 4, full galley and enclosed head, well-equipped cabin with shore power, Docklands Melbourne.

Hull and Platform

The Maxum 2900 SE was built around a wide-beam hull that delivers genuine cabin space in the 29-30ft class. Over three metres of beam means the mid-cabin layout provides usable sleeping for four rather than the cramped compromise typical of narrower hulls in this size range. Twin-sterndrive configuration gives redundancy and handling flexibility you don't get from a single-screw setup at this length. For buyers wanting a boat that can anchor out for a long weekend with four people aboard, feed them from a proper galley, and sleep them in comfort, this is the layout that makes it genuinely liveable. The vessel is named "Fiesta" and carries registration D1683. It has been operated in Australian waters, with evidence of previous use at Rottnest Island, WA, and is currently marina-berthed at Docklands, Melbourne.

Hull Condition

The white fibreglass hull presents in fair condition for its age. Gelcoat is intact across all visible panels with no significant cracks, blistering, or structural damage apparent in the 52 photos provided. Typical age-related oxidation and minor surface scuffing are visible on the white topsides, consistent with approximately 20 years of use. The navy blue hull accent stripe is intact with some fading. The large wraparound windshield is clear and undamaged. The integrated swim platform, stainless stern grab rail, and bow rail are all in serviceable condition. The CQR-style galvanised anchor and chain present in near-new condition. Transom shows no visible stress cracks. HIN: MXYA12MUH405.

Engines and Drive

Twin MerCruiser 4.3L MPI V6 sterndrive engines (220hp each), confirmed from engine bay labelling. Engine hours are not indicated and were not visible in photos. Vendor advises one engine requires a replacement water pump, and inspection is recommended to confirm condition and scope of works. The engine bays show both units accessible and intact. General grime and surface corrosion on fittings consistent with age and regular use. CTEK M300 Marine battery charger installed. Battery isolator switches fitted. Sterndrive unit bellows condition could not be assessed from available photos and should be inspected prior to bidding.

Helm and Electronics

Helm station features a full array of analogue gauges covering both engines, dual Mercury MerCruiser throttle and shift controls, Navman GPS/chartplotter, Uniden VHF radio handset, dual ignition key switches with engine kill switch lanyards. A 27MHz marine radio frequency reference card is affixed near the helm. Shore power inlet fitted port side cockpit. The 240VAC/50Hz AC distribution panel covers battery charger, water heater, refrigerator, microwave, receptacles, and auxiliary circuits.

Cockpit

Open cockpit with U-shaped white vinyl bench seating, pedestal cocktail table, flush-mounted cockpit speakers, and a full navy blue canvas bimini top with aft cockpit enclosure. Vendor advises the clears and covers are in very good condition. Clear vinyl side panels with snaps are intact and transparent. Cockpit upholstery is white vinyl showing soiling and UV weathering from use, and would benefit from professional detailing. A hot and cold transom shower is fitted to the stern.

Cabin and Accommodation

Cherry timber laminate cabinetry throughout the saloon and galley in good overall condition with no delamination visible. Convertible U-shaped dinette with pedestal table converts to an additional berth. Forward offset double berth with overhead hatch and opening porthole for ventilation. Mid-cabin double berth provides a second sleeping area. Total sleeping capacity up to four persons. TEAC flat-screen television wall-mounted port side in the cabin. Sony CD/radio stereo head unit with speakers in both cockpit and cabin. The forward berth headliner fabric shows age-related discoloration and yellowing.

Galley

Stainless steel sink with chrome mixer tap. Stone-look laminate countertop. Sanyo microwave oven (built-in). 12V/240V marine refrigerator (interior shelves show surface rust staining). Electric and spirit stove. Ample storage throughout. Red fire extinguisher bracket-mounted, appears current.

Head (Bathroom)

Fully enclosed stand-up head with white fibreglass vanity and chrome mixer tap, vacuflush toilet system, shower facilities, medicine cabinet/mirror, and overhead oval opening porthole for ventilation. Head compartment presents clean with no visible mould or significant staining.

Safety Equipment

Level 100 Australian-standard PFDs (minimum three visible in photos, labelled AS4758.1). Fire extinguishers fitted in galley and cockpit. Safety equipment is sold as is. Buyers should verify currency and compliance for intended operating area and waterway class.

Market Context

Comparable Maxum 2900 SE examples in well-maintained condition are currently asking from $65,000 (2007 model, dealer-listed in QLD, boatsales.com.au). A 2005 example with twin 220hp MPI MerCruisers and documented 250 hours has been marketed through Sydney marina brokers in the $35,000-$45,000 retail range. This lot is entering auction without a price guide and with the water pump repair and unknown hours factored as a buyer-investigation item. For a buyer prepared to commission a pre-purchase inspection and address the identified mechanical and cosmetic items, the underlying platform represents strong value relative to retail-condition equivalents.

Selling as-is. Inspection by appointment at Docklands, Melbourne VIC. No mechanical warranty offered.
