Description:

1996 Triumph Trophy 1200

The Trophy 1200 was the flagship of Triumph's modern revival lineup, and this 1996 example is a solid, well-equipped long-distance machine that is ready to hit the highway. Finished in maroon with its full fairing, twin headlights and the distinctive Trophy script on the front fairing, it cuts a handsome figure and wears its British character with pride.

Under the fairing sits the smooth 1200cc inline four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed gearbox and chain drive. These motors are known for punchy mid-range grunt and a refined top-end that makes highway miles feel effortless. The odometer shows 47,467 - and with the bike's US import history and MPH-scaled instruments, buyers should confirm whether that reading is miles or kilometres at inspection.

This example came over from the States and carries full Australian import approval, so the paperwork side is sorted. Someone has clearly looked after it: fitted with a Corbin touring seat with removable backrest (a popular upgrade that transforms long-distance comfort), factory colour-matched hard panniers, and it comes with the original owner's handbook. New battery fitted and reportedly runs well, with lights functioning.

Cosmetically it presents well overall. Paint retains strong gloss across most surfaces. The right pannier shows some surface scratching and scuffing consistent with a minor contact at some point, and there is general age-related wear elsewhere, but nothing alarming for a nearly 30-year-old tourer. Chrome and engine cases are in good nick for the age. Tyres have usable tread. The tachometer is currently not functioning but may free up with further use and heat cycling.

This is a practical proposition for someone who wants a capable, characterful touring bike with genuine Triumph British heritage. A solid all-rounder that will turn heads at a rally and eat up the highway between them.
