There Wasn'T Enough Coins Around For Normal Commerce. So A Solution Was That Many Cities Issued Low Denomination Banknotes Called Notgeld (Meaning Emergency Money). They Were Issued Before The Massive Inflation Era That Came A Year Or Two Later That Rendered The Notgeld'S Basically Worthless.
