Story: The painting reflects a journey across time, guided by two turtles—symbols of wisdom and endurance. Their path weaves through two decades of learning and growth, resilience, and connection.



Three yarning circles stand as echoes of time: the past, where ancestors' voices speak of strength; the present, where culture thrives through shared knowledge; and the future, open to new stories yet to unfold. These circles also represent the power of education—learning from the past, teaching in the present, and empowering the future.



This journey aligns with Yalari’s 20-year celebration, honoring two decades of providing quality education to First Nations children. Through the commitment to knowledge and opportunity, Yalari has created pathways for young leaders, ensuring culture and wisdom continue to thrive in the hearts of future generations.



At the meeting place of land and water, the journey finds reflection. The interconnected dots mirror the footprints of those who came before, the presence of now, and the promise of what lies ahead. Twenty years of wisdom and learning flow through this sacred path, reminding us that knowledge is a gift passed through generations, ensuring the journey continues, carried in the hearts of those who walk it together.



Artist bio: My name is Noami Buchanan and I’m from Rockhampton. I am a proud Wadja Wadja and Butchulla woman. I first started painting in Year 10 and fell in love with it. After graduating high school on a Yalari scholarship, I began working with Yalari supporter RACV in Facilities Management while continuing to paint commission works.
