FAREWELL, PUKEKOHE PHOTOGRAPHER: Mark Horsburgh PHOTO: Farewell, Pukekohe “Seeing Shane van Gisbergen do a burnout throughout his career was nothing unusual as he was definitely rated as the best at doing it. But this one was quite special being the last ever race at Pukekohe Park Raceway in 2022 and also being the last time Holden would race there. Shane, being a Kiwi, made this burnout quite fitting in the fact that he got out of the car and saluted the crowd in typical van Gisbergen style.” ABOUT MARK HORSBURGH Mark is regarded as one of the world’s leading sports photographers and specialises in the high-speed world of motorsport where he boasts such prominent manufacturers as Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mini, Volvo, and is the official photographer of the Repco Supercars Championship. Mark’s love of photography began from a young age, shooting weddings and studio portraits as a teenager. While he’s covered various sporting events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Mark’s work is synonymous with Supercars and is one of only two people to have not missed an event in the Supercars era (starting in 1997). That journey began with a young Mark sneaking into the old Surfers Paradise race track to photograph touring car stars of that time such as Peter Brock and Dick Johnson. Over time, he’s become a familiar face in the sport, working closely with household names while capturing action on the track and emotions off it. That’s included trips abroad to China, the United States, and even Iraq where he joined Supercars drivers in visiting an active military base. A distinguished Canon Master, revered for his exceptional ability to capture the high-octane world of motorsport thanks to his deep-rooted passion for racing, Mark combines technical proficiency with an artistic eye, resulting in stunning imagery that highlights the exhilarating essence of Supercars events. His role as the official photographer allows him to be at the forefront of the action, where he skillfully documents not only the thrilling races but also the emotions and teamwork that drive these incredible machines. Mark is recognised for his expertise in using Canon’s cutting-edge technology to create imagery that stands out in both speed and clarity. In doing so his work often features prominently in motorsport publications and online platforms, celebrating the adrenaline-fueled world of racing.
